Euripides’s greatest tragedy, Medea, revived and relocated to the rural bogs of modern day Ireland. Hester Swane, the daughter of a traveller and an outcast from her local community receives a fateful message; leave the bog or die. On the morning of the wedding day of the love of her life, the father of her child, Hester chooses to remain, whatever the cost. A heart wrenching tale of abandonment, betrayal and vengeance at any cost, with a wicked sense of humour and chilling inevitability. With a rich set of characters, and a lyrical poeticism, By the Bog of Cats shifts between the mythic and the literal to create an otherworldly, yet painfully plausible chain of events

In an exciting new production, Minotaur Theatre Company combine emotional realism with haunting live music to bring Carr’s masterpiece to life.

“I’d burn down the world if I’d enough diesel – Will somewan not come and save me from meself before I go and do worse?”

    Hester Swane
