HALF A PERSON
JANUARY 28-30, 2016
"...the blend of Morrissey references and songs with the overall message to not judge a book by its cover combine to make a beautifully sentimental, bonkers and thoroughly entertaining play thanks to a highly energetic cast and an intelligent script..."
- Dan Struthers, Concrete

Always dedicated to new and exiting drama, Minotaur Theatre Company is proud to present the winner of its fifth annual New Writing Competition, Half a Person, by James McDermott.
“If you have five seconds/then I’ll tell you the story of my life/Sixteen clumsy and shy/I went to London and I…”
Half A Person, The Smiths
Jimmy loves stories. When Jimmy reads, he becomes someone else. Someone who doesn’t exist in shitty Sheringham. Someone who isn’t a virgin unsure of his sexuality. Someone who’s parents will let him go to see Morrissey at London’s 02 Arena tomorrow night. When Jimmy’s suspended for standing up to the school bully, he decides to flee to London. He’s going to start a story. He’s going to get a ticket to see Moz. And he’s going to get laid…
Half A Person is a piece of choric storytelling in which individuals emerge from a large ensemble to embody Jimmy and the characters he meets on his journey. It is a comic coming of age story, an adventure story and a story about stories. But ultimately it’s a love story about one boy learning to love without labels, learning to love himself, his family and his roots.
